This was originally Wilson's of Bannockburn No. 7 or 'Eglinton'. It was later adopted by the Montgomeries of Ayrshire and D.W. Stewart thought this took place about the time of the Union (1707). Jamie Scarlett MBE comments that if that is correct, it must be one of the earliest known genuine Lowland tartans.
